Similar to the way that Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer, for those in the foodservice industry, that same sentiment is marked by the annual Restaurant Show held by the National Restaurant Association each May. We are sad to miss out on connecting with friends and colleagues at the annual show and look forward to reconnecting in 2021.
Illinois, the state where the NRA’s Restaurant Show is held annually, has been dramatically impacted by the shutdowns and restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 crisis. According to Sam Toia, President and CEO of the Illinois Restaurant Association, nearly 55% of restaurants have temporarily closed their doors, sales are down 80%, and more than 320,000 restaurant-industry employees have been laid off or furloughed.
