COLORADO RESTAURANT OUTDOOR DINING: WINTER OUTDOOR DESIGN WORKSHOP
Ricca Design Studios was honored to participate in the Colorado Restaurant Outdoor Winter Dining Workshop on October 19th. Nine teams of local architects, engineers, restaurant owners, contractors, and consultants came together to develop solutions for restaurants to create outdoor dining spaces this winter. Each design concept aims to be relatively inexpensive, comfortable for guests and employees, and COVID safe. Each team was responsible for developing solutions for a different location/type, including a parking lot, urban street (open to public), urban street (closed to public), urban sidewalk, mountain resort area (pedestrian mall), mountain resort area (street), nearby/adjacent park, nearby/adjacent private property, and rooftop. PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: WESTIN ANAHEIM RESORT
The new Westin Anaheim Resort strikes a unique balance between upscale modern and family-friendly, due to its location across the street from Disneyland and directly adjacent to the Anaheim Convention Center. Filled with various amenities, the four diamond-rated luxury hotel offers something for everyone – featuring 47,000 square-feet of meeting spaces for business travelers and 23,000 square-feet of restaurant and retail space. Through close collaboration with HED, Ricca Design Studios provided the culinary and laundry design for the new 618-key hotel, which is set to open on December 4th. The dining amenities within the hotel are robust and first-class, including an American 3-meal restaurant, multiple bars, a rooftop tapas lounge, a poolside bar, steakhouse, and Mexican restaurant. Ricca worked diligently to ensure the unique balance between business traveler and tourist is met through the sophisticated, yet approachable restaurants and bar options within the resort. AWARD WIN: KANSAS CITY ART INSTITUTE
Ricca Design Studios is proud that announce that the Barbara Marshall Residence Hall at Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) has been awarded an Honor Award and Project of the Year from AIA Kansas City. Ricca is honored to be part of the successful team, led by Helix Architecture + Design and Christopher Carvell Architects, who brought this remarkable project to life.
Ricca joined the project team to provide culinary design for the new Wylie Dining Center, which is located within the new $30M residence hall. Wylie Dining Center is made up of six food outlets, serving up varieties of Asian, Mexican, salads, vegetarian options, brick oven pizza, and more. Ricca’s Tarah Schroeder, Executive Principal, and Danielle Kunkel, Project Director, took the lead on the project. Tarah comments on the uniqueness of the project at KCAI, “The servery is designed for all you care to eat dining and can convert to a retail food hall down the road. The campus was clear that they wanted that flexibility in response to students’ changing needs. The grill station also serves not only the main dining hall but also an adjacent coffee shop allowing extended hours without increasing capital or labor costs.”
